'Seven Sisters' Rose on the Shed

I selected Rosa 'Seven Sisters' as my first rose because I read that it was often found scrambling over old foundations and cellar holes in derelict and abandoned home sites in New England. It sounded like a tough rose that wouldn't require any pesticides to keep it looking beautiful. I planted a pair on the trellised southern side of our shed. It did not disappoint.
'Seven Sisters' is a lovely rambling multiflora climber brought from China to Britain in the early 1800's. It got its name because the flower colors change over time opening a deep cerise-purple and fading to pink and eventually pale mauve. Mine don't seem to vary in color to such extremes but when this once-blooming rose blossoms it is the belle of the ball in the early July garden.
